The collection contains many fine and rare examples of crystals found in Britain. They are displayed alongside many other colourful specimens from around the world with unusual items such as the 4.5 billion year old, three kilogram meteorite, the fossilised egg and dung of a dinosaur! The “Maverick” gold nugget is one of the largest natural gold specimens on display in the U.K. generously donated to the museum by “Maverick” Bill Wilson and his wife Margaret.

Situated on the scenic north shore of the Solway coast, Mersehead is an extensive wetland and saltmarsh area, a haven for breeding waders, wintering waterfowl and year-round bird and wildlife-watching. Spring is particularly magical, when the wet meadows fill with lapwings and skylarks.

Things to do on site
Fishing
We have a Fishery on site where we offer Coarse Fishing (for Mirror & Common Carp to 8lbs, Tench to 2lbs, Crucians, F1's and Rudd), Bait Trout Fishing (a catch and keep pond for Rainbow trout) and Fly Fishing (a catch and release pond for Brown and Rainbow Trout). We also hire tackle and have a variety of bait for sale.
Mountain Bike Hire
We are located next to Dalbeattie Forest which has a network of bike routes, some nice and gentle, others for the really adventurous!
We also have trailer buggies and tag-alongs for ages 1-6 yrs old.
Treasure Hunt
Grab a treasure map and find the Herdy and Nature signs around the farm. Some can be quite tricky to find! Tick all the signs off on your map and claim your prize.
